High power synthetic jet actuator

High Power Synthetic Jet Actuator (SJA) based on compact piezoelectric actuators, have been developed and tested by
CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES (CTEC) and ONERA, under French National funding RAPID from DGA. This publication
presents the modelling approach with early breadboarding results, the final design chosen for integration onto an aircraft
airfoil mock-up, the performance test results on the SJA device prior integration, and the final aerodynamic performance
test demonstration achieved at ONERA wind tunnel test facility.

Highly dynamic & high precision self balanced optical mechanism

Ongoing developments of instruments reveal the need for fast and precise mechanisms [1]. These requirements are all the more significant when large payloads of hundreds grams, such as mirrors, optical plates, corner cubes or antennas are involved in the motion. Indeed, highly dynamic kinematics coupled with large inertia lead to parasitic reaction forces that interfere on the accurate measurement.

Hysteresis characterization in piezoceramic stack actuators and its influence on vibration and noise reduction in helicopters using actively controlled flaps

In this study, a characterization of hysteresis in a piezoceramic stack actuator similar to those employed in an actively controlled flap (ACF) system is performed to assess the effects of hysteresis on system performance. The effect of unmodeled actuation hysteresis may significantly reduce vibration and noise reduction capabilities. A hysteresis model based on the classical Preisach model has been developed from experimental data.

Improvement of Linear and Rotative Stepping Piezo Actuators using design and control

Stepping Piezo Actuators (SPA) are inertial piezo motors able to reach long stroke with important resolution. Previous work showed that large benefits in terms of speed and input current are taken from use of Amplified Piezo Actuators (APA®). The aim of this paper is to present new rotative configuration, advancements in maximal actuation force into thermal vacuum conditions and improvements using smart control.

Improvement of MSPA Module of Stepping Piezo Actuator and industrial applications in piezo motors

Improving Lamb Wave detection for SHM using a dedicated LWDS electronics

In the context of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) for aircrafts, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is one main field of
research. Detection and localization of damages in a structure request reliability of the equipment and repeatability of the measurements and process. An electronic device called Lamb Wave Detection System (LWDS) have been developed and manufactured to manage piezo-electric patches either in emission or reception mode with a high commutation rate. Besides, integration of the piezo patches is another crucial aspect of reliability. Several methods as modelling and dispersion curves can define the frequency range of Lamb waves to optimize the piezo-electric coupling.
This work which takes part of the H2020 ReMAP project about adaptative aircraft maintenance planning, is presented in the article.
