Viscoelastic properties of the ferret brain measured in vivo at multiple frequencies by magnetic resonance elastography
19 June 2023
Characterization of the dynamic mechanical behavior of brain tissue is essential for understanding and simulating the mechanisms of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Changes in mechanical properties may also reflect changes in the brain due to aging or disease. In this study, we used magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) to measure the viscoelastic properties of ferret brain tissue in vivo.

Ski embbeded piezo system
19 June 2023
Since many years, the field of active control of vibrations has been growing up and many new applications using smart actuators have been developing. In 2003, CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES in collaboration with SKI ROSSIGNOL initiated a project supported by ESA where these concepts (smart material and active control of vibration) were adapted and applied on a ski structure. The project aim was to damp the large modes of vibrations keeping the robustness of the control and the static loads during the ski ride.

Space compliant mobile voice coil actuator
19 June 2023
A moving coil actuator for high precision positioning and compatible with space technology specifications has been designed and successfully tested. General space technology requirements are the use of no degassing material, no lubrication, low mechanic time constant, low electrical power consumption, and thermal energy evacuation through radiating and conducting exchanges (no convection because of operation in vacuum environment). These specifications have been accounted in the design, the realisation and the test of a successful prototype: Thanks to a good design of thermal drains, the actuator presents a high force versus weight ratio.

Strain gages sensors for high stability piezo actuators
19 June 2023
Space, military, and industrial applications require precision position sensors in order to perform closed-loop control or to monitor the state of a system. Those applications usually come with constraints such as wide thermal range, long lifetime, high stability, and compactness.

Super amplified piezo actuator
19 June 2023
MICROMEGA DYNAMICS is a spin-off company of the “Université Libre de Bruxelles” (ULB), Department of Mechanical Engineering and robotics of Pr PREUMONT. This department created in 1989, is specialized in the modeling and control of mechatronic systems and in the active control of vibrations.

Segmented bimorph mirrors for adaptive optics:segment design and experiment
19 June 2023
This paper discusses a concept of light weight segmented bimorph mirror for adaptive optics. The segment consists of a monocrystal Silicon substrate actuated by an array of in-plane piezoceramic (PZT) actuators with honeycomb electrodes. The paper focuses on technological aspects of the segment design which are critical for space applications and describes a single segment demonstrator. The morphing capability of the segment is evaluated experimentally. The paper also discusses the local deformations (dimples) associated with the shape of the electrodes acting on the PZT array.
