Improving Lamb Wave detection for SHM using a dedicated LWDS electronics
19 June 2023
In the context of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) for aircrafts, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is one main field of
research. Detection and localization of damages in a structure request reliability of the equipment and repeatability of the measurements and process. An electronic device called Lamb Wave Detection System (LWDS) have been developed and manufactured to manage piezo-electric patches either in emission or reception mode with a high commutation rate. Besides, integration of the piezo patches is another crucial aspect of reliability. Several methods as modelling and dispersion curves can define the frequency range of Lamb waves to optimize the piezo-electric coupling.
This work which takes part of the H2020 ReMAP project about adaptative aircraft maintenance planning, is presented in the article.

Investigations on a directly coupled piezoactuated tool feed system for micro electro discharge machine
19 June 2023
A directly coupled piezoactuated tool feed mechanism is proposed and a prototype micro-electrodischarge machine (micro-EDM) is developed. The piezoactuator is used to feed the tool and also to sense the tool displacement from a reference position. The hysteresis behavior of the piezoactuator is also incorporated through an electromechanical model for estimating the actual tool displacement. Simulation results for piezoactuator displacement are compared with the experiment and a maximum error of 15% was observed. Further, in order to control the tool feed rate during machining, a tool feed controller based on the gap voltage feedback is developed.

Large stroke Rotary Voice Coil Motor for cryogenic application
19 June 2023
CTEC is developing and testing Rotary Voice Coil Motors (RVCM) for new cryogenic space scan mechanisms applications,
based on former MTG space program heritage. The RVCM is an electromagnetic motor based on Laplace force.
The motor is composed of coils at the rotor part (mobile) and magnets at the stator part (fixed). The Laplace motor
generates a pure torque, without cogging or parasitic force drawback, which makes it specifically relevant for scan mechanisms.

LDIA2007 Moving coil or moving iron controllable actuators
19 June 2023
There is a strong demand of controllable actuators for both traditional and new applications. A controllable actuator should be able to accelerate, break, inverse the motion of the load, all along the stroke. It means the force produced by the actuator should be proportional (at least roughly) to the applied electric excitation, and in particular, the sign of the actuation force could be changed all along the stroke.

Limited Angle Torque for fine angular positioning
19 June 2023
A Limited Angle Torque (LAT) actuator has been designed by Cedrat upon request of the European Space Agency (ESA) for fine pointing applications based on gimbals assembly. The required angular stroke for this application is 13°. Other required features are controllability, high resolution, no micro vibration. Therefore the selected concept is a coil-redounded electromagnetic actuator using Lorentz force. The functional test shows that the generated torque is linear until 200mN.m, but torques up to 300mN.m are achievable.
