New piezo motor for thermal vacuum environments
19 June 2023
CTEC and F4E have improved and pre-qualified a MSPA piezo motor, based on a secret material and able to operate in vacuum,, non-magnetic or high temperature and sustain radiations. Its high reliability, precision and operating lifetime makes this new piezo motor perfectly suitable for space, healthcare and nuclear applications.
Micromotor based on film permanent magnets
19 June 2023
A design of a single phase step micro motor is presented. The rotor has been optimised to induce the greatest magnetic energy using film permanent magnets. A special study has been performed to select the most advantageous magnetisation direction and the structure has been chosen taking into account micro technologies characteristics and the present know-how available for realisation of prototypes. A scale 2 prototype has already been realised. Its special air gap tuning for film magnet test is presented, as well as first torque measurements.
Miniature piezo mechanisms for optical and space applications
19 June 2023
Piezoelectric actuators find their first applications in active space optics. The purpose of this paper is to describe the state of the art and some applications. Piezo actuators display attractive features for space applications, such as precise positioning, unlubricated, non magnetic and compact features, and low power consumption. However, piezo mechanisms cannot be considered separately from their driving and control electronic.
Modular Test bed for Performance Assessment of Piezoelectric Stick-Slip Actuators
19 June 2023
Stepping piezoelectric actuators based on the stick-slip effect inherently make use of a friction contact between stator and rotor. This contact defines not only the actuator’s performance but also is prone to wear and tear. For broad use, the actuator has to be able to perform around 1 million strokes. To assess the actuator’s performance in terms of force, speed, mechanical output, electrical input, and long-term stability under different load- and environmental conditions, as well as different friction partners, a dedicated test-bed for a LSPA30µXS motor by Cedrat Technologies has been set up.
Moving Iron Controllable Actuator : Performances in close loop control
19 June 2023
Moving iron controllable actuator (MICA) is a highly controllable Actuator. It has a robust mobile part with elastic guiding for a long life. The article presents the performances of the MICA when it is driven in a closed loop and shows impressive results achieved by IDEKO on a SOLARUCE milling machine.
Lpm motor test
19 June 2023
We are delighted in announcing the successful test of our LPM20 linear piezoelectric motor, carried out in June this year at the CNES (French Agency Space), Toulouse in vacuum conditions.Developed for positioning applications, the piezoelectric motor
has proved to be a very interesting solution thanks to its high massive force, its zero consumption at rest and its high precision. For space applications, it is a question of obtaining an identical behaviour in ambient and in vacuum conditions.
However, the friction drive that is the key to the functioning of the piezoelectric motor, limits the lifespan and poses tribology problems.
